KREG HAWKINS
alt

The Kreg Hawkins Memorial Golf Tournament has been held every year during the summer seminar. To have the tournament was unanimously agreed upon by the membership to honor Kreg who was killed during his 2nd term of the office of Secretary - Treasurer of NPEA and the person that pushed NPEA into computerization. Kreg was also a standing member of the Oregon State polygraph licensing board. His death, of course, was a shock to all of us and he is deeply missed.

Two summer seminars prior to his accident, I talked Kreg into entering the tournament even though he had never played golf. He was very musically talented but was about as clumsy as a bear in a glass shop. After about a 2 1/2 minute crash course , Kreg took his first t-shot for about 150 yards right down the center of the fairway. His 2nd shot with an iron stretched out a little short of 200 yards downslope. Kreg came over and asked me something like 'is this all there is to it or am I maybe a little lucky'. I told him to think about what he just said after we were through. He told me after the game that it was the most frustrating but fun thing that he had done in a long time but said that he just might buy some clubs. The following year here was Kreg, one of the first to sign up. He told me once that if the game did one thing for him it taught him how to construct a sentence containing 6 words, 4 of which were swear words. After each tournament Kreg was thinking about the next one because he loved the comaraderie that went along with the game. Following Kreg's death it was decided on an agreed upon that every summer seminar would have a golf tournament unless the location was such that it could not be held.

I think about you often Kreg, a friend.........Dave McNeill
